Scorpio - Latin for "the Scorpion" (Skorpios
in Greek). This fearsome Scorpion
figured in an argument between the
wild, untamed, virgin goddess of the
hunt, Artemis and the legendary
gigantic Greek hunter, Orion. There
are at least three versions as to
the reason for this argument between
Artemis and Orion. However, in each
version of the story, Artemis used
her Scorpion to sting and kill the
hunter Orion.
In the earliest versions of the
myth, Artemis was apparently quite
in love with Orion. However, because
Orion was in love with the goddess
Eos (goddess of the Dawn) - Artemis
arranged for Orion to be killed by
the Scorpion out of her sense of
spite, rage, and jealousy. In
another version, Artemis used the
Scorpion to kill Orion in revenge
for having raped her. In still
another version, Orion had boasted
to the gods that he was such a great
hunter that he could single-handedly
kill every last animal on earth.
Artemis, goddess of the hunt, used
her deadly Scorpion to prove Orion
wrong.

Typical descriptions of the Sun in
Scorpio are that you are a
passionate and intense individual.
You may gain attention through
creating dramatic situations. You
may also be secretive. A few of the
characteristics you should
consciously seek to develop in your
life are: Intensity, magnetism, your
penetrating perception, and your
power to confront (honestly with
mercy) Blah... blah... blah...
You've heard all of this before,
haven't you? So let's get down to
it! .
Truth is Scorpio Sun? We both know
you have the most powerful of the
twelve Sun Signs, bar none. So I
have a story to share with you about
your Sun in Scorpio. This story is
about the Medusa and the winged
horse named Pegasus... But in order
to get to Pegasus, you've first got
to make it past the deadly Medusa.
C'mon! You remember the Medusa,
don't you?...
One of the Gorgon Sisters
The Gorgon sisters were the three
ladies who turned men into stone
just by looking at them. Once upon a
time, the Gorgons were beautiful,
desirable women. The most beautiful
of the sisters, Medusa, happened to
catch the attention of the god
Poseidon (the god of the oceans and
waterways). Smitten with desire for
Medusa, Poseidon set out about
seducing her... And to make a long
story short, they got together for
one grand and glorious night of
wild, passionate lovemaking in the
temple of Athena.
Unfortunately, the temple of Athena
was an extremely bad choice of
places to get together and do the
wild thing... Athena (being a
chaste, virgin goddess) was terribly
offended by this sort of rude and
crude behaviour going on in her
sacred temple... And so, Athena's
punishment was to curse Medusa and
her two sisters with sheer,
unadulterated ugliness and with
writhing, venomous snakes growing
out of their heads! In spite of
their monstrous condition, the
sisters were terrifyingly beautiful
and seductive to behold. No man
encountering the infamous Gorgons
(knowing it was instant death) could
avert his gaze from the terrifyingly
beautiful Gorgon sisters...
Perseus
We learn the most about the Gorgons
in the adventures of the Greek hero,
Perseus. (You may remember this
story from that movie "The Clash of
the Titans" starring Sun Sign
Scorpio, Harry Hamlin.) For various
reasons, Perseus has foolishly (yet
heroically) sworn to a king that he
(Perseus) will bring back the head
of the dreaded Medusa on a platter.
(Of the three Gorgon sisters, only
the Medusa was mortal and could be
killed...)
Perseus, aided by gifts of Athena
and Hermes (a golden shield and a
swift sword) locates the cave of the
Gorgons. Luckily for Perseus, the
Gorgons were sleeping soundly. But
Perseus can't avert his eyes from
the seductive beauty of the Medusa
(still fast asleep). Only after much
effort is Perseus able to look away
from the Medusa... The Medusa then
wakes up; and a battle ensues
between Perseus and the Medusa.
Using the golden shield of Athena,
Perseus is able to see the Medusa's
reflection. And with Hermes' swift
sword, Perseus cuts off the Medusa's
head. (Settle down... I'm about to
get to the Pegasus part!)
Medusa and Scorpio
Face it... it doesn't exactly take a
rocket scientist to see a connection
between the Medusa and Scorpionic
energies... Wherever you find
Scorpionic/Plutonian energies in the
birth chart, you'll likely find the
Medusa lurking in the shadows
nearby... Intensity and betrayal are
often a couple of the Medusa's
favourite themes.
Tell the truth, Scorpio... turned
anyone into stone with your dark,
powerful Scorpionic gaze lately?
That "stone cold glare" which
informs the recipients that they
might as well not exist on this (or
any other) planet... Okay, okay. I
know they probably did something
deserving of "the dreaded look." But
all those writhing, venomous snakes
growing out of your head? Do
something about that. Okay? Check in
with a hair stylist!
Everyone has a Medusa to deal with!
She's the inner-Medusa that each of
us eventually has to face, battle,
and ultimately reconcile with... But
Scorpio is on a first name basis
with the lady. However, the good
news is you've become rather adept
in recognizing the Medusa when she's
rearing her ugly head through the
people around you. So a personal
"first name basis" with the lady
comes in handy by keeping you alert
to all the many Medusas who
inevitably cross your path.
Pegasus?
But what about Pegasus? So where
does Pegasus fit into all this?
After Medusa's night of passion in
the temple of Athena, she was "with
child" by Poseidon. At the time of
her death, the Medusa carried within
her womb the hero Chrysaor and the
winged steed Pegasus. So when the
Medusa's head was severed at the
neck, Chrysaor and Pegasus sprang
out. Perseus, then, escaped the
remaining Gorgon sisters by riding
away on the back of Pegasus.
Think about it... The energies
giving life to the Medusa were, in
the end result, the very same
energies which gave birth to the
winged horse, Pegasus. Through the
cutting off of her head, the Medusa
was released from her curse and
torment. Thus, learning lessons of
mental detachment are often rather
crucial in the continued growth and
lives journeys of those strong in
Scorpionic/Plutonic energies. (So
"losing your head" can, in fact, be
a good thing.)
In many ways, the Medusa symbolizes
the curse of Scorpio and Pluto-
however Pegasus is the final
redemption and rebirth of Scorpio
and Pluto set free! So Scorpio, the
next time some gorgeous gal or guy
walks up to you and asks, "What your
sign?" Go ahead and tell them you
were born under the sign of Pegasus.
Your birth Sun is the hero of your
mythic journey through this
lifetime. Let Your Light Shine!

Regardless of whether you're a male
or female, the very first love of
your life was your mother (or if mom
was absent, then another mother
figure in your environment). The
Moon symbolizes the unconscious,
instincts, and what you need to feel
nurtured in your life.
With the Moon in Scorpio, you like
to keep a close watch over your
environment. You tend to be quite
wary and suspicious of the hidden
workings and motivations of others
You may have been born at a time
when your mother was experiencing a
crisis in her life? Or your birth
may have been somehow traumatic. As
a very young child, you may have
experienced your mother as being
rather emotionally possessive,
controlling, and intense in her
relationship with you.
The Moon is the "place" where we go
for comfort when scared.... and, as
adults, we tend to unconsciously
nurture ourselves in much the same
way our mothers nurtured and cared
for us when we were very young
children. Therefore, as an adult,
you have a strong need for emotional
intensity, and you may often feel an
overwhelming need for emotional
drama in your life. With the Moon in
Scorpio, feeling bad is often much
better than feeling nothing at all.
Under stress you might even resort
to unconsciously acting and behaving
in ways which will then create this
needed emotional drama and intensity
in your life.
For day to day relief of stress? Try
taking a long, hot, soothing bath
illumined only by moonlight. Better
yet... if you’ve got the bucks, then
buy a Jacuzzi to escape into. Other
suggestions? Enter the inner-sanctum
of your home (You do have an
inner-sanctum in your home, don’t
you?) and read a good "whodunit"
murder mystery, the latest
supernatural Dean Koontz thriller,
or a book revealing hidden mysteries
of the universe. Last, but certainly
not least, get kinky with the
mutually contenting adult in your
life (preferably in that Jacuzzi you
recently bought). Suggestions for a
nice relaxing vacation? If you enjoy
vacations involving a wee bit of
physical activity, then I suggest
calling up Carlsbad Caverns, in New
Mexico and signing up for one of
their cave spelunking tours. If
you’re a wee bit more sedentary in
your ways, then rent a cabin
overlooking a lake (located out in
the middle of nowhere) and enjoy the
peace and solitude.

Do you remember the Mother Goose
nursery rhyme: "There once was a
girl who had a curl in her hair...
And when she was good, she was very
good. And when she was bad, she was
horrid." That, my friend, is your
Scorpio lover in a nutshell.
Your Scorpio lover is capable of
experiencing emotional depths of
intense passion, yearning, and
desire. As your lover, Scorpio is
able to lead you into his/her
innermost emotional depths. Taking
in this inner-journey into the
depths of Scorpio, then often
enables you, as Scorpio's lover, to
reach into and experience your own
deepest passions, yearnings, and
desires. As Scorpio's lover, getting
in touch with the dark depths of
your own passions and desires may or
may not be comfortable for you. If
not comfortable with your own
deepest passions and desires, then
you may find yourself "headed for
hills" just as fast as your little
legs can carry you.
Those eyes... those eyes... what is
it about those intense, magnetic
Scorpio eyes? As Scorpio's lover,
chances are you've discovered the
mysterious, magnetic drawing power
that your Scorpio often seems to
have on people. Can I let you in on
a little secret? Don't let your
Scorpio lover know that I told you
this... okay? But if your Scorpio
lover wants something or someone bad
enough - then Scorpio can often
think the desired the object into
existence with the force of sheer
will power. (No really, they can.)
Come to think of it, maybe your
Scorpio lover willed you into
existence? Scorpio can choose to use
this ability for good, unselfish
purposes, or Scorpio can choose to
use this gift for their own, less
than noble purposes. The bad news
for your Scorpio lover is that
Scorpio has likewise discovered (or
should soon discover) that many of
the things or people that he/she is
able to "will into existence"
usually ends up biting Scorpio on
the butt.
Love's Spell: The most difficult
lifelong lessons and/or problems
that your Scorpio lover must
eventually come to terms with are
the "need for control" and "mental
detachment." Barring other factors
in the chart, Scorpio typically
experiences great difficulty in
being able to detach (unless they
happen to be one doing the
detaching). Scorpio has the strong
natural tendency to emotionally hold
on to a "ghost lover" in their
dreams, fantasies, and obsessions -
long, long, long, long after the
real "flesh and blood lover" has
ripped their heart to shreds and
summarily left their universe.
Hopefully, the following
"prescription" will be of some help
for Scorpio in the area of "mental
detachment"...
During the European Renaissance
(1400-1700s AD), it was commonly
accepted that the eyes were the
entry way into the human soul. If a
man were to be overcome with
melancholy due to an undying
passion, love, and devotion for a
woman - it was thought that the man
had come under the influence of a
spell and enchantment. It was
believed that the woman had
initially gained access to the man's
soul through his eyes - this was
often at the very moment when her
eyes first met his eyes. Common
symptoms of this malefic malady were
loss of sleep, loss of appetite, and
loss of drink. Many possible courses
of treatment were first prescribed -
such as flogging the man or having
him spend a weekend in an
out-of-town "house of ill repute".
However, if none of these lesser
measures worked - then a counter
enchantment was performed on the
man. Typically, the man sat in a
chair, while an ugly "hag" (their
terminology, not mine) from the
village stood before the man,
screaming profanities and saying
vile things about the woman he was
''smitten" with. This was continued
until the man was released from the
enchantment. If, after all this, the
man was still not cured of the
enchantment - as a last resort, the
ugly hag would pull out a rag
drenched in her menstrual blood,
place it inches away from the man's
face, and scream: "This is your
woman! She is like this! She is like
this!" This was normally thought to
do the trick.
Shadow: Scorpio's intense jealousy
and often unfounded suspicions about
their lover. Scorpio, we both know
that this persistent, aching
paranoia of yours can totally screw
up an otherwise excellent
relationship. Another shadow
characteristic to watch out for with
Scorpio is subtle manipulation. As
also mentioned Scorpio has a need
for control. Scorpio has discovered
that sometimes the ability to will
things into existence using sheer
"will power" just isn't quite fast
enough to suit them - and so Scorpio
may feel the need to manipulate
circumstances and/or people in order
to get what they want. Not good. Not
good at all.
